Notre Dame Cathedral of Paris on fire

The famous cathedral of Paris, the Notre Dame, catches fire as reported by France 24 today. Details are pouring in.

Known as the Lady of Paris, the cathedral is a landmark of Paris and a favourite tourist attraction. The cathedral is also famous for the epic movie Hunchback of Notre Dame which featured superb performance by late Anthony Quinn.

Chaos in Paris - more than 120 dead in gun shooting

It was a bad day in Paris as gun attacks and killed more than 120 people in various parts of the city. Reportedly, Around 100 people were killed in an attack on the Bataclan concert venue in Paris on Friday night.

Explosions have also been heard outside the national stadium where France was hosting a friendly match against Germany.

The dead include four suspected attackers, including three who were inside the Bataclan concert hall which was stormed by armed police and another who launched a suicide attack near the Stade de France national stadium.

President Francois Hollande who was evacuated from the stadium before the end of the match, has declared a state of emergency across the country after simultaneous attacks in Paris. He has also cancelled his trip to Turkey to attend the G20 summit.

Saudi Prince spends $19.5m for a Three-Day Degree Celebration stay at Disneyland Resort

Saudi Prince Fahd al-Saud is reported to have spent some 15m euros ($19.5m) during a private visit to the Disneyland resort near Paris.

Prince Fahd al-Saud is said to have booked entire areas of the park over the 22-24 May period, to celebrate getting his degree. The festivities included tailor-made events involving "rare Disney characters", Euro Disney told the AFP news agency.

Euro Disney, which runs the theme park, confirmed that a prince had spent three days there with a number of guests. The company says it regularly organizes private events for firms or people.

French soldier stabbed near Paris

After the gory incident in England where two assailants killed a British soldier in broad day light, a French soldier is reported to have been attacked in the Paris suburbs.

The soldier was on patrol in the area of La Defense when he was stabbed in the neck by an unknown man who escaped. The 23-year-old French soldier was patrolling in uniform with two colleagues in the suburban railway station at La Defense late on Saturday afternoon.

The assailant, whose identity is unknown, ran away into a crowded shopping area before the two other soldiers were able to react.

The soldier's injuries are not life-threatening and he is in a stable condition.

Bomb Threat to Eiffel Tower was a Bogey

An anonymous call Saturday evening created a scare and stir at the Paris' famous landmark, the Eiffel Tower, which claimed that explosives have been planted inside the tower.

Police and rescuers immediately evacuated the Tower of about 1,400 people present including tourists and staff members. The call received at 7 p.m. local time warned of a possible attack at 9:30 p.m. local time.

However, the call turned out to be a bogey and after search, the Tower was reopened after two and a half hours of closure.

The 1,050 ft tall iron lattice tower was built for the 1889 World's Fair, and soon turned into a prestige symbol of modern France.

But the Préfecture de Police de Paris (PP) pulled the plug on the event on Monday August 7, deeming the river water to be “of manifestly insufficient quality for swimming” despite “significant improvements in recent years.”

Louis Vuitton Bags Stolen From Paris

Just a week after samples of Marc Jacobs' Spring 2012 collection were lifted from a Paris train, thieves have made off with loads of Louis Vuitton from Paris' Charles de Gaulle airport, reports Huffington Post quoting Women's Wear Daily.

The report further says that a small group of masked bandits overtook four airport employees and a security guard at one of the terminals and nabbed ten skids containing $400,000 worth of Louis Vuitton merch.
