Pakistan shows interest in Russian Weapons

Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan has hinted at looking for Russian arsenal for its defence needs. The recent meeting of Pakistan's prime minister and the Russian President Putin during the recently concluded Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Kyrgyzstan.

For long Pakistan has been dependent on Western, specially the American weapons but the latest shift in interests by US compels Pakistan to start exploring other arms markets.Specially so for the reason that USA is notorious to blocks spares or even ordered bookings that have negative effects on maintainer of armies. Pakistan is in dire need of attack helicopters as its aging fleet of American Cobra helicopters is almost sighing its last.

Russia has much to offer to Pakistan. Almost all weapons systems – land or sea-based – could be used by Pakistani armed forces, but the likeliest candidates are tanks, helicopters, specially Mi-35 gunship helicopters, and air defense systems, explains military expert and retired colonel Mikhail Khodarenok..

There’s plenty of reasons why Russia may want to offer its state-of-the-art armaments to Pakistan, he stated. Pakistan is an emerging arms trade market, and its demand for Russian weapons may amount to a whopping $8-9 billion in coming years.
