Pakistan faces acute water scarcity threat, warns UN report

The changing weather trends like extreme rains, floods, cyclones and even droughts in countries like Australia, China and Pakistan are likely to create problems like water scarcity, deteriorating water quality and climate change risks. This has been disclosed in the Statistical Yearbook for Asia and the Pacific 2011 published by the UN’s Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) on Wednesday. The report places Pakistan among the water hotspots of Asia Pacific region

It may be added here that Pakistan over the past two years is experiencing excessive rains and resultant flash and enormous floods that besides causing tremendous damage to life and property, is also a major cause of food crops damages and shortages.
