World Support Needed to Repatriate 3m Afghan Refugees from Pakistan

Full Story: Pakistan Today

When the former Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan  in 1980, millions of Afghans fled to Pakistan and stayed back even when Soviet troops withdrew from Afghanistan a decade later. With Afghanistan totally abandoned by the world community, it became a killing field for the power grabbers. Now after more than three decades, these 3 Million plus refugees still live on in Pakistan, straining Pakistan's economy.

The Pakistani Prime Minister Gilani has urged the world community in general and the Commonwealth countries in particular to help repatriation of these refugees back home. He raised the issue during the ongoing Commonwealth countries Heads of the Government conference at Perth, Australia.
