The famous ghazal singer and musician Jagit Singh died today. Paired with his wife, Chitra Singh, the duo rose to prominence in the 80s and were instant celebrities. He is known for giving a new direction to ghazal singing of modern times. He sang in many languages that induced Punjabi, Urdu, Bengali, Sindhi, Gujrati, Hindi and even Nepalese. His death will create a great void and vacuum in ghazal singing.
A choronic high blood pressure patient, Singh suffered a brain hemorrhage on Friday. After the operation, he was in the Intensive Care Unit and was on ventilator at the time of his death.
