MotoGP rider Marco Simoncelli was laid to rest today in his hometown of Coriano, Italy. His funeral was held in the Santa Maria Assunta Church at 3 p.m. Simoncelli died at the Sepang GP in Malaysia Sunday when he lost control of his Gresini Honda and was struck by the bikes of Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi.
A large number of friends, fans,, family members and celebrities from world of sports attended the funeral service. Simoncelli’s Gilera bike, on which he won the 2008 250cc World Championship title, and the Honda RC212V, on which he competed in the MotoGP class were displayed on either side of his casket, as can be seen in the video below.
