Nanotechnology may help provide cost effective solar power conversion into electricity

Full Story: Guardian

We have plenty of solar power available from sun for free. But when it comes to transforming the solar energy into electricity, it becomes quite expensive. The scientists all over the world are trying their best to find a way out and find solutions for cheap conversion of solar energy int electricity. The efficiency and cost effectiveness of production of electricity from the presently available solar panels depends on how many electrons can pass through the two layers of the solar panels, which is presently limited due to the size of the interface panels. This is where nanotechnology can help us to provide efficient and perhaps low cost solution to solar light conversion into electricity. The scientists believe that this can be done by increasing the size of these interfaces by creating incredibly bumpy surfaces. This can allow more electrons to pass, increasing the amount of electricity produced.

Read the full story for the detailed report on the subject and see whether one day we can convert solar energy into electricity cheaply and efficiently using nanotechnology or not.
