The PM of Pakistan inaugurated Pakistan's satellite control centre at Kala Shah Kaku near Lahore Saturday to monitor the commercial operations of the country's second communication satellite, The centre will beam telecommunication and broadcast services from the satellite, which is expected to have a life of 15 years.
Paksat-1R, an indigenously built communication satellite by Pakistan's space research organization Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), was launched by China on 11 August 2011 and will be used for digital TV broadcasts, broadband internet, remote and rural telephony, emergency communications, tele-education and tele-medicine.
The Pakistani PM on the occasion said:
"The launch and commissioning of Paksat-1R marks the "first significant step towards realising" Pakistan's Space Vision 2040."
