Red Arrows and aircraft with similar ejection seats grounded after pilot's death

Full Story / Photo: Mail Online 9 November 2011

Flight Lieutenant Sean Cunningham
The Royal Air Force (RAF) has grounded all Red Arrow aircraft, besides all other aircraft like Hawk, Tucano and Tornado, which use the similar ejection seat as that of Red Arrows pending completion of accident investigation.

It may be added that the parachute of the ejection seat failed to deploy when Flight Lieutenant Sean Cunningham's plane was on runway. Cunningham was seriously injured by falling on to the ground. He was evacuated to hospital where he later died.

The tragic Accident comes less than three months after death of another pilot on the team, Flt Lt Jon Egging.
