England's caretaker coach, Stuart Lancaster, is set to name a matchday squad this week containing as many as 11 newcomers to the Six Nations.
The 22-strong party for the Calcutta Cup match on Saturday, to be officially unveiled on Thursday, will contain up to eight new caps and rank among the least experienced to wear the red rose in the tournament's modern history.
