Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari has ordered conversion of Indian prisoner Sarabjeet Singh’s death penalty into life imprisonment, Express News reported on Tuesday. The president has also ordered his immediate release.
The Indian prisoner was sentenced to death on September 15, 1991 on allegations that he was involved in three bomb blasts in Lahore and one in Multan.
Many mercy petitions were filed by Singh for his release and a recent petition, signed by 100,000 Indians, urged Zardari to reciprocate the release of Pakistani virologist Dr Khalil Chishty by the Indian government.
