UK airlines hit by London Olympics


The 2012 Olympic Games have had a detrimental effect on airlines in Britain, with traffic at London Heathrow, Europe’s busiest airport, being down 4.4 percent year-on-year in July.

Airports operator BAA, which owns five airports in the UK, said it suffered a 4.1 percent drop in passenger traffic in July as the London Olympics deterred business passengers and tourists from travelling. 

The fall in passenger traffic included a drop of 4.4 percent at Heathrow to 6.6 million passengers as a particularly stark 6.6 percent drop in passengers on European flights to and from Heathrow was also reported.
