India cracks down on the US charity Ford Foundation

In a bid to restrict the cash outs to NGOs by foreign hands without government involvement, India has come heavy on the US charity Ford Foundation.

A news item says that US charity can no longer give money to local organisations without government permission.

The move follows a complaint from the government of the western state of Gujarat over the foundation's grants to a NGO run by a long-time critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
