Boeing India helicopter deal likely in six months


Indian military officials said on Wednesday that negotiations with Boeing to buy helicopters worth $2.4 billion could take up to six months to conclude.

New Delhi last month selected the US aeronautical giant to provide 15 Chinook CH-47F heavy-lift helicopters and 22 AH-64D Block III Apache helicopters for its expanding air force.

Boeing's twin-rotor Chinook was chosen over Russia-based MiL Moscow Helicopter Plant's Mi-26, while the Apache was selected over the Mi-28, the official said, confirming earlier media reports.

Boeing Delivers Its Largest Plane To A Top Secret VIP Buyer

Business Insider has reported, quoting Reuters that Boeing has just delivered the first copy of the latest and greatest version, the 747-8 Intercontinental, has been delivered to a secret VIP customer.
Boeing has not identified the customer for the plane, but typically customers for jets like this are heads of state or multimillionaires.

While the VIP buyer has not been unveiled, it is known that the Secret Service is searching for a replacement for the current planes that are serving as Air Force One. According to Aviation Week, Boeing is the only bidder to replace Air Force One and the 747-8 is one of the planes they are touting.

Problem with 787's fuselage may delay Dreamliner's delivery schedule

Boeing's much trumpeted 787 Dreamliner made imposing headlines when the company announced it delivery schedule of ten aircraft per month from next year. But something with the fuselage of the aircraft is speculated to delay its delivery schedule, reports Reuters.

Some analysts are of the view that right from the start the target was unrealistic and ambitious and the new glitch is likely to down 787's production.

It may be added that Boeing's 787 Dreamliner is the world's first commercial airplane made largely of lightweight carbon composites.

We heard of 15,000 pounds Daisy Cutters during the Tora Bora pounding in the initial days of the US invasion of Afghanistan to hunt down OBL. But that was just history.

Here we have something much larger, bigger, heavier and destructive: the 20,000 pounds MOP - Massive Ordnance Penetrator Bomb.

Developed by Boeing, the MOP has the capability of blasting through 60 feet of concrete with a bomb exploding at 200 feet underground.



At over 20 feet in length and weighing 30,000 pounds, the MOP is a precision guided bomb that is a part of the U.S.'s initiative to decrease dependence on nuclear weapons as a deterrent.

Boeing wins $3.48 billion U.S. missile defense contract

Boeing Co beat out Lockheed Martin to retain its position as the prime contractor for the U.S. long-range missile shield, the Pentagon said on Friday.


The U.S. Defense Department said it was awarding Boeing a $3.48 billion, seven-year contract to develop, test, engineer and manufacture missile defense systems.

The shield has been shaped initially to guard against ballistic missiles that could be fired by Iran and North Korea. It is the only U.S. defense against long-range missiles that could be tipped with chemical, biological or nuclear warheads.

Boeing bags a Lion's share from Lion Air

Boeing has bagged a "lion's share" in its deal with Lion Air, the biggest private airline of Indonesia. The airline has booked an order of  $21.7 billion with the Boeing for purchase of some 230 short-haul aircraft.

The deal includes an option for another 150 aircraft worth an estimated $14 billion. Boeing claims that the order placed by Lion Air would would be its largest ever "by both dollar volume and total number of airplanes," if finalized.
