'Frankenstorm' Sandy' hits US Coasts, cripples life

Hurricane Sandy, owing to its ferocity labeled as Frankenstorm has began to batter the densely populated East Coast, shutting down schools, business centers amid fears of large scale destruction and deaths.

Some even fear Sandy to be deadlier than the Galveston storm that hit USA in 1990, leaving behind thousands dead. Today the port city, which was once the wealthiest city of America  stands in ruins even after years of the disaster.

However, the deadliest ever cyclone 'Bhola' hat hit anywhere in the word was the one that hit East Pakistan, as per the 2008 MSNBC report, on 12 November 1970. The cyclone and its aftermath killed more than 500,000.

The fully charged Sandy is battering the US east cost where people have yet to take the hurricane seriously. 12 inches of rain is also expected along the coast line cities.

As of now, almost 6,000 flights have been cancelled, leaving thousands of would be passengers on airports around the world bounded for the storm affected areas. In the meanwhile, Sandy fears has forced closure of JFK and LaGuardia airports in New York and Newark in New Jersey till further notice, while Amtrak has cancelled all services in the north-east Tuesday, today.

The flight cancellations may lead to havoc which would create gridlock in the U.S. aviation system and create a backlog of stranded passengers. It is feared that losses may surpass $ 20 billion due to Sandy.
