US Open: Flavia Pennetta wins the best of Italian Grand Finale


With the exodus of most hot favourite Serena Williams at the hands of unseeded Roberta Vinci from Italy, the women's single final was an all Italian show at the US Open yesterday.

26th ranked Flavia Pennetta (above right), 33 beat fellow Italian Roberta Vinci (Above left) 7-6 (7-4) 6-2 to win her first and last Grand Slam title as she soon after winning announced her retirement from International tennis. She also became the second Italian to win the US Open title.





Flavia, the new world number eight will play two tournaments in China, as well as the WTA Finals in Singapore if she qualifies, before calling it a day.
