John McCarthy, considered as the father and pioneer of artificial intelligence and creator of related computer language used in artificial intelligence breathed his last at 84 at his home in Palo Alto Wednesday. No immediate cause of his death was known. He was a professor at Stanford University for four decades. Here he created the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Lab and also served as its director from 1965-80.
